The Keyes High School for Girls, originally known as Girl's Patashala, was established in 1881 — a time when girls' education was deemed unnecessary and even harmful.
Mr. Vegugopal Pillai, the founder, is remembered as a pioneer who rendered immense service to girls' education. In 1930, the school was elevated to High School status through the efforts of Dewan Bahadur C.V. Padma Rao Mudaliar. The first batch appeared for H.S.L.C. exams in 1932.
In 1955–56, it became a Higher Secondary Multipurpose School as per the Secondary Education Commission. Today, we prepare students for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination with an outstanding record of first classes.
